Horizon 2020 is a European Union program for research and innovation for the period from 2014 to 2020, which combines the activities of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) and the EU contribution to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Within this program, researchers can apply for funding for both collaborative and individual research and innovation projects and scholarships for mobility focused on research activities.
Horizon 2020 aims to contribute to achieving the objectives of key strategic documents related to the EU for research, technological development and innovation, Europe 2020 and the Innovation Union as well as the construction of the European Research Area.
The new program aims to strengthen the global position of the EU in research, innovation and technology. Unlike FP7 program, the focus on innovation and activities that are directed towards the market is larger, so that one of the main priorities are the exploitation and commercialization of research results, and the sector of small and medium enterprises gets easier access to financing in almost all areas of Horizon2020.
The structure of Horizon 2020 is based on three pillars: Excellence in Science, Leadership in the Industry and Social Challenges.
There are also specific horizontal activities - Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation and Science with and for society.
An important part of Horizont2020 represents the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the activities of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), nuclear research and training activities under the EURATOM program and a new pilot action - Fast Track to Innovation Pilot (2015-2016), which aims to promote innovation activities aimed at the market.
Researchers who are interested in applying for projects under the Horizon 2020 program can for any further information and assistance in searching for the project’s call, partner institution or the application itself contact the University unit that focuses on the supports of the application and implementation of international projects:
